North
Bay Mercury Pollution
Prevention
Fluorescent Lamp Recycling Pilot
Project
The
The Mercury Pollution Prevention Program is an
ongoing program focusing on the development of
outreach materials and implementing strategies
intended to minimize release of mercury into San
Francisco and San Pablo bays from different sources. One
part of the Mercury Pollution Prevention
Program is the Fluorescent Lamp Recycling
Pilot Project:
Fluorescent
Lamp
Recycling
Pilot Project – While
fluorescent lamps save energy, they contain mercury
and therefore must be disposed of properly. NBWA
member agencies have begun a pilot project to
help residents of the North Bay recycle their
fluorescent bulbs more easily. Three North Bay
hardware stores have teamed with NBWA to set up
recycling bins at their stores for use bulbs.
