Consolidated Grant Proposal for Non-Point Source Projects
NBWA received a grant award from the State Water Resources Control Board in August 2005 for $639,250. The funding of eight projects will protect and restore the coastal waters and near-shore habitats of the North Bay targeting erosion sites and sediment source; urban storm water runoff; and non-point source pollution. Best Management Practices (BMPs) and in-stream aquatic and wetland habitat improvements will be used to complete the below projects, which total 1 million dollars in project costs.
The projects include:
- San Anselmo Creek Restoration
- Novato Creek Watershed Citizen’s Water Quality Monitoring Program
- Petaluma Watershed Restoration and Outreach
- Redwood Creek Watershed Sediment Control
- Sonoma Creek-Jack London State Historic Park Watershed Erosion Inventory
and Sediment Control
- Sonoma Creek-Watershed Stewardship Assistance to private landowners
- Sonoma Creek-Channel Reach Rehabilitation
- Sonoma Creek-Water Quality Monitoring
Integrated Regional Water Management Plan
In 2005, NBWA completed an Integrated Regional Water Management Plan (IRWMP) to better manage water resources and enhance habitat in the North Bay region using the information developed in the Watershed Stewardship Plan. The goal of the IRWMP is to identify and understand the competing needs and issues of the region’s water resources and integrate these needs into a comprehensive management plan. The IRWMP prioritized projects and developed policies, implementation steps, and performance measures.
North Bay Watershed Stewardship Plan
NBWA developed the Watershed Stewardship Plan (Plan) in 2004 to provide a framework for protecting and enhancing the natural resources within the NBWA region of the North Bay. The Plan used a consensus-based approach to develop goals and objectives and compiled an inventory of projects and a GIS database.
