Thompson
Creek Stream Restoration Demonstration Project
NBWA
teamed with the Sonoma County Water Agency, the
City of Petaluma and local residents and students
to conduct revegetation activities
along a reach of Thompson Creek in the City of Petaluma.
NBWA developed a revegetation
plan for the site in November 2001. Creek planting
activities at the site took place in December
2001. Activities at the site included removal of invasive
species such as cattail and blackberry, installation
of over 500 native plant species,
and installation of a drip irrigation system.
Students from grant elementary school participated
in the planting effort. During the 2001-2002 growing season, there was 76 percent plant survival
rate. Creek maintenance activities took place in December 2003. Students
from Grant Elementary returned to participate creek maintenance, including
removal of tree protection on established plants and installation
of 115 replacement plants. Site monitoring will continue until 2004.
