With Sonoma Ecology Center as the lead, this initiate is assisting water sector decision-makers, policy writers and planners –in both city and county government and natural resource organizations — to better use locally relevant climate change science in everyday planning and decision-making. This effort will result in improved understanding throughout the North Bay about climate change information and data available to help with forward-looking planning. This is a project of the Napa RCD in cooperation with Point Blue’s STRAW program. For school year 2015/16 LandSmart® for Kids Youth Stewards program focused on climate study and career exploration for high-school aged students. Several high-schools participated over the school year and through the project have access to local restoration efforts where they were able to learn first hand about issues, methods and opportunities. Friends of the Petaluma River is engaged with students to foster better understanding about the Petaluma River watershed. NBWA funding is being used to enhance the Petaluma Watershed Atlas and to provide hand-on water quality monitoring equipment for teachers and students.
